Leyton Orient 1
(League Two)
ADAM Boyd's early wonder strike was enough to send Orient marching back to the top of League One.
The visitors got off to the perfect start, when they raced into a third minute lead. An excellent leap in midfield by Adam Chamber's saw him flick on a looping high ball to Boyd on the edge of area, where he unleashed an unstoppable volley past Matt Glennon after cleverly letting the ball drop over his shoulder.
Glenn Morris, who was making his first League start of the season, then produced an excellent block with his feet to keep out Luke Beckett, after he had been sent clear by Malvin Kamara.
Beckett found himself in another good position on 13 minutes after being picked out by Danny Cadamateri, but his header was again saved by Morris.
Paul Terry and Chambers then went close at the other end for the O's, although the Londoners had a real let off on the stroke of half time after Tamika Mkandawire blocked on the line to keep out Malvin Kamara's goalbound effort.
Terry was again denied by Glennon shortly after the restart, after being set-up by Boyd.
Terriers' sub Phil Jevons went close at the other end on 71 minutes with an acrobatic effort, but it was just wide of the mark.
The on-loan Bristol City man then stabbed wide, after being picked out by home skipper Frank Sinclair.
Mkandawire produced another heroic block to deny Beckett and when Jevons hooked just over the bar before the end, the O's knew they had done enough to secure the points.
A delighted Martin Ling said: "It was a phenomenal result for us.
"Coming to a place like this, against a side on a good run, and to put on a dogged display like we had to today is immensely pleasing.
"These are the kind of wins that please managers the most, when you put a team out there who all dig in and put their bodies on the line to take all three points.
"We played 98 minutes without conceding and it was important to see it through.
"Adam Boyd got his eighth of the season but out of the 12 players who played, I can't name a man of the match."
Orient: Morris, Purches, Thelwell, Mkandawire, Daniels, Demetriou, Chambers, Terry, Corden, Gray (Ibehre 75), Boyd. Unused: Nelson, Saah, Barcham, Melligan.
