WHILE Spurs may have lived in the shadows of their bitter north London rivals Arsenal for years they still managed to beat them to the signing of Jonathan Woodgate.

Media reports suggest the Gunners attempted to hijack the England defenders move from Middlesbrough in January, but in the end he choose to stick with Spurs.

The Independent says it will not help the mood of Arsenal supporters that it has now emerged that Arsene Wenger did indeed attempt to sign Woodgate only to find he was wrapping up talks with Tottenham.

arsenal are sweating are you mad mate, you won the carling cup, getting hyper like your going to win the league start winning games first. what moves are you making in 12th place you tell me?
spurs kick arsenal out of top four the biggest joke of my life, wenger made it clear that he didnt want jonathan woodgate, we buy talented players unlike you kaboul, malbranque, huddlestone, i could go on, the shittest player in our team is eboue!

Dan Mac, says...

You buy all the quality players?? Like Hleb and Flamini who have decided to leave now... like henry did last year - yeah, I agree that he hasn't exactly gone on to better things, but it was still HIS choice to leave... that's 3 of your first team players in the last yr now that have decided they don't want to stay at Arsenal...

without bringing this into Spurs v Arsenal and just keeping it about football - it doesn't look good for you lot.

by the way... Malbranque...??? what do you know about football... he's been **** awesome!

:-O

In the name of God - some folk are truly dense; the whole point of the story is that WENGER ACTUALLY WANTED HIM AND FAILED IN AN ATTEMPT TO SIGN HIM.
This is, presumably, a fact, it can therefore be deduced that Arsene Wenger, who you go on to claim 'knows' knew that he wanted to sign Woodgate, thus negating your assertion that you don't need him.

To all you supporters of a so called club on the up.... can i just remind you that you have won 1 "meaningless" Cup in 9 years... and so how is that a club on the up ??
for years you have said "This is our year" and everytime you prove that your nothing more than a mid table team that can still attract over the hill and injury prone players.. Woodgate is a two bob racist mug that im sure wenger would not be intrest in purchasing, so well done... im sure he will fit well down at **** hart lane...

Look at all the Arsenal fans getting on the defensive and jealous!! So Spurs have only won a cr@ppy trophy... what have you won in the last 3 years? Arsen Wenger should go IMO.

We may not win anything next year, but neither will you.

You should be ashamed, no English players and all your quality is leaving... the quality is coming to the Lane!!!

Well we clearly are a team on the up, as we have won a cup this year mate.Whereas your a team on the down as when was the last time you won a cup? No one wants to join you now because you dont win things, whereas wiv spurs they join 2 win things, ie woodgate he chose to join a team that won a cup this year and not one that didnt.

When Wenger tried to bid for Woodgate he was already having his medical at the Lane. I think that Woodgate would be on more money at Spurs anyway than Arsenal.

I don't care about Flamini and Hleb leaving, Flamini can be replaced with a more physically strong player and Hleb is awful, can't shoot, won't shoot and no assists. Even if Wenger doesn't buy I'm confident the youngsters would do better than Hleb. To put it simply, these players leaving are a blessing in disguise.

Spurs need to show their quality rather than spending power before I chuck anything at them.

Arsenal youth.... I've only heard about that for about the last 5 years!! When will they come in to fruition exactly?

wenger has already said he did not go for woodgate this is just more crap. all you dumb spurs fans going on about you have won a cup this year well done but thats like us arsenal fans saying look at the last 9 years and who has won more its pathatic a mid table finish is not something to be proud of i remember being told at the start of the season you would finish above us by every spurs fan i know now look. All the star are coming to spurs how can you even say that when your best player is leaving berbatov knows he has to go else where to achive anything

TrueYid, says...

our best player leaving to acheive something?? isnt that exactly what Henry did??

sam, london says...
1:37pm Fri 9 May 08

i am a tottenham fan, and to those gooners hu dont agree he would be a great signing do not have a clue. he is top class, and clearly your back 4 is too small for the premiership. can u think of a better tall english centre half that was available?? i cant

g, london says...
3:40pm Fri 9 May 08

Sam its not about agreeing wenger came out and said he did not bid for woodgate so it is a pointless article. As for henry if thats what he moved for don't you think he would have gone to a different team cos every one know barca ain'nt winning nothing

Crossy, London says...
4:55pm Fri 9 May 08

g from London...Everyone knows Barca aint winning nothing...Is this the same Barca that beat you in the Chaampions League Final? The same year they won the Spanish League Title, the same year you won nothing?
I would look at your facts before putting more succesful teams down both recently and historically!!

The season ends, and with it the end of Spurs' failures on the field, and now the fantasists come out from under their rocks. Arsenal improved 12-15 points this year over last; how did Spurs do? They won the supporter's cupand then tanked, rather than push forward. Woodgate makes their defense even more iffy, right. How many games did he play?
